Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related field
  • minimum of five years’ experience in event management or related professional area
  • proven leadership experience
  • strong financial and budget management skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • knowledge of life safety codes and regulations
  • experience with vendor relationship management
  • ability to develop and implement training and succession plans

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major

Job Duties

  • Lead and direct the Convention Services department
  • direct the activities and monitor the performance of the Convention Services leadership team including leader performance evaluations and goal-setting
  • develop and implement the leader training plan, career and succession planning
  • assist in preparing and administering the Convention Services budget
  • assist and direct the management of revenues and development of new revenue sources
  • promote appropriate communication to operational departments and assist in problem resolution
  • verify that all operational policies and procedures are maintained
  • promote compliance with life safety codes and regulations
  • develop the annual department strategic plan and ensure adherence to goals and objectives
  • promote successful conference planning and interact with clients throughout the planning and event execution
  • partner with the Sales team to assist with sales and turnover process and problem resolution
  • foster vendor relationships, monitor commissions and manage contractual obligations
  • develop and maintain meeting planners’ information and facility guidelines
  • verify client and meeting planning satisfaction goals through smooth execution of events
  • manage quality processes in customer service and employee satisfaction
  • provide constructive coaching and counseling to employees
  • direct development, training, and mentoring of employees
  • impose deadlines and delegate tasks appropriately
  • motivate and create a productive work environment
  • listen and respond to employees’ needs
  • manage group or interpersonal conflict
  • develop and manage hourly employees
  • engage in goal setting and conduct reviews for Convention Service Managers
