The Probation Department of Stanislaus County is seeking a dedicated Assistant Cook I to join the team at the Probation Juvenile Commitment Facility located at 2215 Blue Gum Avenue, CA. Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalency
- pass a thorough background investigation
- no felony convictions
- must be of good moral character
- ability to work overtime, standby, callback, shift, weekend, and holiday assignments
- physical ability to lift and carry mechanical equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds
- ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- willingness to comply with all safety and sanitation protocols
- must be able to work in a secure, institutional setting
- availability for part-time extra-help work
- ability to transport food and equipment as needed
- pass a pre-employment drug screening if applicable
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency
- knowledge of methods, procedures, materials and equipment involved in the large scale preparation and storage of food
- ability to follow simple verbal and written instructions
- ability to read English sufficiently to understand instructions regarding therapeutic diets, production work sheets and recipes
- ability to work under fluctuating temperature conditions for long periods
- ability to lift, carry and/or push supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- ability to maintain a professional attitude while working with patients, inmates, and others
- willingness to learn methods and procedures of large scale food preparation and special diets
- skill in utilizing kitchen equipment rapidly and efficiently
- experience in handling various cleaning supplies
- ability to prepare, arrange, and serve large quantities of food attractively
- physical ability to lift, bend, stoop, stand, reach overhead
- push, pull, squat, twist, and turn
- willingness to learn to use a pallet jack
- ability to properly measure and record food amounts
Job Duties
- Clean and prepare vegetables and fruits
- operate kitchen equipment including microwave, coffee machines, blender, mixers, and meat slicer
- prepare sandwiches, coffee, custards, and gelatins
- serve food in a cafeteria setting
- prepare meals in accordance with the therapeutic diet manual
- perform a variety of cleaning and custodial work such as washing dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils
- load, unload, operate and clean dishwasher
- mop floors
- clean and sanitize all kitchen surfaces and refrigerator walls and floors
- dispose of garbage in compactor or dumpsters
- store, rotate, and distribute food and supplies
- prepare and serve between meal nourishment
- transport food to appropriate destinations which may require loading and unloading
