Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous coaching experience at the middle school or youth level preferred
- Ability to work after school hours for practices and games
- Compliance with Tacoma School District policies and WIAA regulations
- Physical capability to perform coaching duties including lifting equipment
- Good communication skills to interact with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to attend mandatory athletic meetings and training sessions
Job Qualifications
- Experience coaching middle school or youth basketball teams
- Knowledge of Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) rules and regulations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan and implement basketball training programs
- Commitment to promoting sportsmanship and student development
- Physical ability to demonstrate basketball skills and handle sports equipment
- Familiarity with school athletic program administration
Job Duties
- Instruct middle school athletes in fundamental basketball skills and strategy
- Supervise student athletes to promote effective learning and safe participation
- Plan and implement engaging, instructive practice sessions four days a week for 7th and 8th grades, and two days for 6th grade
- Communicate with parents regarding rules, schedules, and program scope
- Organize and maintain equipment issuance, safety checks, inventory, and ensure proper return
- Coordinate facility use and follow district procedures for budgeting, purchasing, and injury handling
- Attend athletic meetings and update knowledge through clinics and workshops
