Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years safety experience in student transportation industry preferred
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Must complete state certification or Durham's Training Academy for School Bus Instructors or equivalent
  • Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements preferred
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills
  • Ability to travel 30-50% to multiple locations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • College degree preferred
  • 3+ years of safety experience in student transportation industry preferred
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Experience supervising/training a driver's workforce preferred
  • Completion of state certification program or Durham's Training Academy for School Bus Instructors or equivalent experience
  • Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements is preferred
  • Innovative classroom training skills with working knowledge of adult training techniques
  • Computer literacy skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other business applications
  • Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and group presentation skills
  • Well-developed multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Ability to provide direction, coaching and mentoring to employees
  • Ability to respond to unanticipated events to ensure excellence in customer service
  • Ability to investigate claims and incidents of questionable conduct, accidents etc.

Job Duties

  • Lead and manage a team of Safety and Training Managers, providing direction and support to ensure high-quality safety and training delivery
  • Develop and implement student and/or customer safety awareness programs
  • Assist in the development of location management and collaborate in training new Safety Committees
  • Work with the Area Safety Director and Operations Management to ensure company safety standards are deployed in accordance with company policies
  • Assist management in the administration of the location's safety program and performance metrics
  • Collaborate with the location team to ensure employee compliance with federal/state regulations and company requirements
  • Assist with program audits as required by company policy and federal/state audits or inspections
  • Assist the location team on employee coaching, providing feedback and/or recognition, analyze effectiveness of location coaches, and support continuous improvement
  • Assist location team with investigating customer service concerns related to safety issues and take necessary action
  • Administer and maintain pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing program
  • Assist location management on responding to work-related injuries and vehicle accidents, incidents, completing on-scene investigations, and preparing/submitting reports to third-party administrators
  • Develop prevention plans based on loss data and cause analysis
  • Travel up to 30-50% of the time to multiple site locations to conduct site visits and ensure consistency in safety training standards
  • Exhibit the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity
  • Conduct special projects and duties as requested
