Job Requirements

high school diploma or equivalent
minimum two years experience in swim instruction preferred
minimum two years experience working with children preferred
proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
knowledge of Water Safety Instructor standards
ability to swim confidently using standard swimming strokes
teach swimming techniques for all age groups
effective communication skills
must be 16 years or older
Water Safety Instructor certification preferred
First Aid, CPR, AED certification required within one year of hire date
availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
able to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds
ability to work in wet/humid conditions and occasional pool exposure
adherence to safety policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

16 years and older
high school diploma or equivalent required
minimum two years of swim instruction experience preferred
minimum two years of experience working with children preferred
proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
knowledge of Water Safety Instructor standards
confident swimmer using standard strokes
ability to teach swimming techniques for all age groups
bilingual English and Spanish preferred
effective communication skills
demonstrate initiative and responsibility
ability to manage workload with minimal supervision
effective decision-making skills
ability to prioritize work efficiently
follow procedures to obtain appropriate results
develop positive rapport with departments, public, and community groups
identify problems and develop solutions
perform basic mathematical calculations
operate job-related equipment

Job Duties

create, implement, maintain, distribute, and communicate all swim lesson information including class rosters, lesson plans, report cards, mid-session progress reports, and evaluations
assist in scheduling all private and semi-private swim lesson schedules
review swim lesson evaluations and surveys and report results and recommendations to supervisor
communicate with youth participants' parents and respond to inquiries promptly and professionally
assist in the recruitment and selection of swim instructors
plan, organize, implement, and oversee swim instructor training and in-service workshops
answer customer inquiries or direct to appropriate staff
inspect safety and swim lesson equipment to ensure proper working condition
maintain safety and swim lesson supplies and equipment
implement developmentally appropriate activities to enhance participant skills
assume instructional responsibilities when required
participate in special events
assist staff in their duties
work evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned
conduct duties adhering to all safety requirements
perform other duties assigned by supervisor to support the department or District
