Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior related experience in aquatics or recreation
  • valid driver's license or ability to obtain one
  • base level lifeguard certification preferred, must be obtained within 6 months
  • lifeguard instructor certification preferred, required within 12 months
  • water safety instructor certification preferred, to be obtained within 12 months
  • current first aid, CPR, AED certification required
  • emergency oxygen certification required
  • ability to work up to 29 hours per week
  • capability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • ability to sit, walk, talk, and hear frequently
  • proficiency in computer use and software related to program management
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to supervise staff effectively
  • willingness to undergo pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • availability to work varied schedules

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, physical education, aquatics, or related field preferred
  • prior supervisory experience in waterfront, pool, or lifeguarding (2 years preferred)
  • knowledge of city or county government is a plus
  • understanding of customer service principles
  • knowledge of aquatic programming and relevant equipment and policies
  • proficiency with software for registration and customer management
  • strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • ability to supervise and coordinate staff
  • creativity in program design and scheduling
  • valid driver's license or ability to obtain
  • base level lifeguard certification preferred and required within 6 months
  • lifeguard instructor preferred and required within 12 months
  • water safety instructor certification preferred and required within 12 months
  • first aid, CPR, AED certification required
  • emergency oxygen certification required
  • first aid/CPR/AED instructor certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist with planning, development, and supervision of aquatic and ice programs
  • recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate aquatics and ice staff
  • enforce policies and procedures to ensure safety and high-quality service
  • conduct training and maintain required records for compliance
  • communicate and enforce emergency procedures including first aid and CPR
  • manage equipment inventory and facility upkeep
  • oversee registration software and update related websites and social media
  • cultivate community partnerships and coordinate with other divisions
  • fill in for direct programming such as lifeguarding and swim instruction when needed
