Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in aquatic facility management or similar role
  • Leadership skills in staff supervision
  • Knowledge of water safety and chemical safety
  • Ability to plan and coordinate diverse recreational programs

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, public administration, or related field preferred
  • Several years of experience in aquatic facility management or recreational program coordination
  • Proven leadership experience supervising large and diverse staff teams
  • Strong budgeting and fiscal management skills
  • Knowledge of water safety, lifeguarding principles, chemical safety, and maintenance procedures
  • Experience in developing and implementing community programs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and in varied environmental conditions
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in program delivery and workforce management
  • Proficiency in computer registration and financial management systems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the aquatic center by determining work priorities, developing guidelines and deadlines, directing supervisory personnel and delegating assignments
  • Actively recruit and retain a diverse workforce
  • Hire, train, discipline and evaluate personnel
  • Coach and mentor employees, building cohesive teams and conducting staff training
  • Prepare and submit area budgets and monitor fiscal activity to assure conformity with established budget constraints
  • Seek to acquire alternative funding through state and federal grants
  • Generate revenues through self-funding programs
  • Coordinate and supervise purchases, expenditures, and supplies
  • Coordinate comprehensive, diverse, and inclusive recreation, fitness and aquatics programs for seniors, adults, and youth, including swim lessons, special events, swim leagues/tournaments, fitness programs, instructional programming, and events with external organizations
  • Work within the community and with internal/external agencies to develop partnerships and collaborations
  • Study, analyze, and interpret aquatic and recreation and aquatics needs and resources
  • Develop and implement marketing strategy for the facility and develop pricing strategies for new programs
  • Coordinate the maintenance and use of the facility enforcing rules and regulations to ensure a safe, pleasant environment for patrons
  • Monitor the general activities of patrons to ensure compliance with rules and regulations
  • Ensure appropriate risk management of the facility and programs
  • Plan and implement comprehensive water safety, lifeguarding, chemical safety, maintenance and personal safety training for staff
  • Act as the hazardous chemical site manager
  • Perform lifeguard and instructional duties as required
  • Oversee sales, registrations, rental of the facility, computer registration program, daily admissions, scholarship procedures, and all other aspects of cash flow procedures
  • Maintain records and reports regarding program operations, budgets, cash accounts, and safety
  • Oversee customer service investigating and resolving complaints or inquiries from employees and patrons
  • Assist with the operations of the front counter to ensure maximum customer service results
  • Provide administrative support by answering questions, responding to community member and staff concerns and comments, maintaining correspondence with other divisions or agencies, interfacing with community groups, attending advisory council meetings, and actively promoting the facility through speaking engagements and guest appearances
  • Perform related duties as required
