Job Requirements
- High school graduation or GED
- one year of relevant experience including animal control, care, handling, research, or office clerical duties
- valid Montana Driver's License
- willingness to volunteer vaccination status and receive immunizations as required
- ability to pass pre-employment physical examination
- ability to perform regular physical activity including standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, medium and occasional heavy lifting
- ability to work with animals of all sizes and temperaments
- availability for regularly scheduled weekends
- ability to use protective gear when working with chemicals
- ability to drive county vehicle with trailer
Job Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED
- at least one year of experience in animal control, animal care or handling, animal research, or office clerical duties
- experience working with the public
- ability to perform heavy physical labor
- valid Montana Driver's License
Job Duties
- Feed and water animals
- clean cages, outdoor kennels, and shelter areas
- observe animals for illness, injury, or behavioral issues
- schedule veterinary appointments and authorize medical procedures
- administer first aid, medications, vaccinations, and insert microchips
- answer phones and emails, take public complaints, prioritize calls, and dispatch animal control officers
- provide public information on animal ordinances, care, licensing, adoption, and spay/neuter programs
- perform data entry, handle cash, balance cash drawer, and produce reports
- process animals into and out of the shelter
- review and approve adoption applications
- issue dog and kennel licenses and citations
- coordinate outreach and adoption events
- maintain Animal Control website and social media
- promote dog licensing and develop educational materials
- canvass neighborhoods to identify unlicensed dogs
- participate in emergency incident command and quality improvement projects
- drive county vehicle with trailer for animal care and event setup
