Job Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older
  • possess a high school diploma or GED
  • have two years of relevant experience
  • able to lift over 100 pounds
  • willing to obtain required certifications
  • resident of Wakulla County
  • possess a valid Florida driver's license
  • pass a background investigation
  • pass a driver’s license check
  • pass a drug screening
  • available to work weekends, early and late shifts
  • available for on-call duties
  • available on short notice

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years of experience in animal welfare or control environment, public health, law enforcement, or related field
  • ability to lift animals and equipment over 100 pounds
  • willingness to obtain ACO and euthanasia certification within six to eight months
  • previous public interaction experience preferred
  • valid Florida driver's license

Job Duties

  • Responding to citizen calls for service
  • inspecting and licensing kennels within Wakulla County
  • making oral presentations to schools and groups on animal control issues
  • issuing notices of violations and hearing notices
  • serving legal processes as a process server
  • preparing written and oral reports for contested cases
  • assisting prosecuting attorney's office and sheriff's office in animal-related cases
  • supporting daily operations and maintenance of the animal shelter
