Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of full-time experience as a medical receptionist, patient services specialist, or general clerical experience
  • Ability to operate a computer and photocopy machine
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make simple calculations
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely with a pleasant voice
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Must be able to sit for long periods
  • Must have eyesight correctable to 20/20
  • Ability to hear within normal range
  • Ability to view computer screens for long periods
  • Must have eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity for office equipment operation

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of full-time experience as a medical receptionist, patient services specialist, or general clerical experience
  • Experience in a radiology setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type patient information
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make simple calculations
  • Ability to operate a computer and photocopy machine
  • Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone pleasantly and helpfully
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely with a pleasant voice
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information

Job Duties

  • Greet and register patients in a prompt, pleasant, and helpful manner
  • Record patient demographics including social security number, address, and insurance information
  • Verify insurance eligibility
  • Promptly and professionally answer telephone calls
  • Reconcile daily cash
  • Participate with other staff to seek account resolution
  • Oversee the waiting area, coordinate patient movement, and report problems or irregularities
  • Respond to routine requests for information and communicate general clinic information
  • Book, coordinate, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments according to established procedures
  • Relay necessary messages to staff
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Multitask effectively
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Perform related work as required
