Job Requirements

  • Food service experience in back-of-house/kitchen
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and complex recipes
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to use weights, measures and comprehend recipes
  • Knowledge of knife skills and kitchen equipment
  • Flexibility to work in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand or walk up to 10 hours
  • Ability to bend, point, stand, twist, climb
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic
  • Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Must pass criminal background check

Job Qualifications

  • Food service experience in back-of-house/kitchen
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and complex recipes
  • Strong written, reading, and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic knife skills, chopping, sautéing, grilling, and food prep
  • Understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environments
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand or walk up to 10 hours
  • Motivated with strong work ethic
  • Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification or equivalent preferred
  • Culinary degree and pastry experience considered a plus

Job Duties

  • Prepare food to the executive chef's specifications
  • Assist kitchen staff with daily tasks
  • Cook menu items in cooperation with kitchen staff
  • Support kitchen maintenance and cleanings
  • Report accidents and policy violations to leadership
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and safe working environment
  • Help prepare foods for other VMFA dining venues as needed
