Job Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid EMT certification issued by approved California certifying entity
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card
- Valid California Class C driver's license with acceptable history
- Valid California Motor Vehicle Ambulance Certification endorsement by submission deadline
- Ability to work any shift including weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Physical ability to lift and transport patients
- Good moral character without criminal history
- Ability to operate an ambulance and other motor-driven equipment
- Willingness to assume responsibility for safe working environment
- Ability to work 24 and 12-hour shifts as required
- Compliance with Glendale Fire Department tattoo policy
- Completion of background check including Livescan and polygraph
- Ability to perform under stressful conditions
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card
- Valid California Class C driver's license with acceptable driving history
- Valid California Motor Vehicle Ambulance Certification endorsement
- Knowledge of emergency medical services procedures
- Ability to operate emergency vehicles under normal and emergency conditions
- Ability to communicate clearly via radio
- Ability to work well with others and the public
- Good physical condition
- Ethical conduct and commitment to customer service
- Experience in a 911 EMT role is highly desirable
- Completion of California Fire Academy is desirable
- Bilingual abilities are a plus
Job Duties
- Provide emergency medical care to ill or injured patients within scope of EMT-1 certification
- Assist firefighter/paramedics with medical and health care services
- Operate emergency medical ambulance safely to and from emergency scenes
- Transport patients to hospitals or other emergency care facilities
- Monitor and operate radio and communication equipment
- Prepare incident reports for billing and record keeping
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA
- Participate in station housekeeping, cooking, and maintenance activities
- Facilitate and participate in training sessions
- Maintain station facilities and equipment
- Receive and stock medical and station supplies
- Perform basic maintenance on apparatus and facilities
- Operate motor-driven equipment, including ambulances and utility vehicles
- Assist other divisions of the fire department as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
