Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, engineering, public administration, geography, environmental affairs, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in transportation planning, writing, and presenting
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles, estimating techniques, construction methods, and project management
  • Knowledge of planning principles and practices related to transportation planning and public participation
  • One year experience with ArcGIS including ArcGIS Online and Adobe suite
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings and events
  • Ability to interact professionally with the public and handle situations involving frustration or agitation
  • Ability to perform site visits with exposure to traffic hazards
  • Valid work authorization
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, engineering, public administration, geography, environmental affairs, or related field
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in transportation planning, writing, and presenting
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles, estimating techniques, construction methods, and project management
  • Skilled in planning principles including public participation, data analysis, and information dissemination
  • Experience using ArcGIS, including ArcGIS Online, and Adobe suite
  • Preferred membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
  • Master's degree in planning or related field preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist in the coordination and planning of capital projects supporting Vision Zero and SS4A Safety Action Plan
  • Assist in design and implementation of permanent and rapid response infrastructure improvements
  • Lead public education efforts on bicycle and pedestrian safety through community partnerships
  • Respond to public and media inquiries related to active transportation
  • Plan and coordinate education, encouragement, and evaluation programs including events like International Walk to School Day and Bloomington Bikes Month
  • Investigate and respond to connectivity concerns and provide technical recommendations
  • Manage Traffic Calming and Greenways Program and Local Motion Grant Program
  • Perform site inspections and field reviews of multimodal safety and connectivity projects
  • Maintain Bicycle Friendly and Walk Friendly Community certifications
  • Research, author, and present reports to various Boards and Commissions
  • Pursue grant funding and manage grant-funded projects
  • Represent the City on relevant committees and organizations
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
