Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of responsible large-scale food service experience including food preparation and safety
  • Proficient in cashiering and Microsoft Office
  • Basic math proficiency
  • Completion of eight-hour ASD Serving It Safe food safety class and passing associated exam within 21 days of hire
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift items weighing less than 40 lbs
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English
  • Must pass a satisfactory criminal background check
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment
  • Commitment to providing equitable service as part of School District policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in large-scale food service operations including food preparation, handling, and safety
  • Proficiency in cashiering and Microsoft Office
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication
  • Completion of ASD Serving It Safe food safety class and passing the exam within 21 days of hire
  • Preferred one year of supervisory experience including planning and directing staff work
  • Preferred experience providing training in kitchen responsibilities
  • Preferred experience with food service point of sale and inventory systems
  • Preferred previous experience as food service manager

Job Duties

  • Manage all food and supply inventories including ordering and production records
  • Handle cash procedures, bank deposits, and submit paperwork to Student Nutrition office
  • Know and comply with USDA and State meal pattern and service guidelines
  • Monitor kitchen equipment temperatures and food heating/cooling times per HACCP requirements
  • Ensure adherence to sanitation and food safety regulations
  • Prepare and serve elementary pre-plate and secondary open food services
  • Prepare lunches daily on schedule for estimated student numbers
  • Maintain proper food serving techniques and portion controls
  • Organize and assign work to kitchen staff as applicable
  • Follow all Student Nutrition Department and Anchorage School District policies and procedures
  • Resolve complaints timely and communicate concerns to supervisor
  • Submit maintenance requests and report major problems
  • Maintain NSLP compliance for Free and Reduced meals and accurate record keeping
  • Plan, organize, and make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate cafeteria assistants
  • Coordinate employee timecards and leave requests
  • Assign and direct student aides and substitutes
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and the public
