Job Requirements
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be 21 years of age or older within one year of hire
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Possess a high school diploma recognized by a state or GED equivalent
- Certification by the Alaska Police Standards Council or eligibility for reinstatement
- State of Alaska Fire Fighter I and II certification
- Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting certification
- Must meet firearms qualifications
- Completion of Bloodborne Pathogens Training (OSHA)
- Meet Department physical requirements
- Pass extensive background investigation including criminal background check, fingerprinting, medical, visual, hearing and psychological evaluations, truth verification, and drug screening
- No felony or misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence
- No convictions of crimes involving dishonesty or moral turpitude in past 10 years
- No serious physical injury convictions in past 10 years
- No more than one DUI conviction in past 10 years
- No illegal manufacture, transport, or sale of controlled substances except under specified conditions
- No illegal use of controlled substances in past five years except under specified conditions
- No marijuana use in past year except under specified conditions
- Never denied or revoked certification without reinstatement
- Not under suspension of basic certification in other jurisdiction unless rescinded
Job Qualifications
- Certification by the Alaska Police Standards Council under 13 AAC 85.010
- State of Alaska Fire Fighter I certification
- State of Alaska Fire Fighter II certification
- Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting certification
- Valid driver’s license
- Two years of experience as an Airport Police and Fire Officer 4 with the State of Alaska or five years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience including three years at supervisory command level
- Knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS)
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet Department physical requirements
- Must meet firearms qualifications
- U.S. citizenship
- High school diploma or equivalent
Job Duties
- Oversee law enforcement, aircraft rescue firefighting, rescue operations, hazardous material response, EMS, code enforcement, and emergency response functions at Anchorage International Airport
- Manage staffing, equipment, and budget to ensure readiness and effective response capabilities
- Administer and supervise up to 54 employees including leads, officers, and support staff
- Interpret and enforce departmental policies and procedures
- Make recommendations for departmental policy changes
- Assume management of the entire department and Airport Communication Center in Chief’s absence
- Collaborate with airport departments such as airlines, security, maintenance, and customer service to ensure coordinated operations
