Job Requirements

  • Possession or eligibility for an active police officer certificate by the Alaska Police Standards Council
  • Two years experience as Airport Police and Fire Officer 4 with the State of Alaska or five years progressively responsible law enforcement experience with three years supervisory command
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Age 21 or older within one year of hire
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Certification in bloodborne pathogens training
  • Must meet firearms qualifications and department physical requirements
  • Ability to obtain airport security badge and APSIN certification
  • Compliance with federal regulations related to firearm use
  • Pass extensive background investigation including criminal, medical, psychological, and drug screening

Job Qualifications

  • Certification by the Alaska Police Standards Council
  • State of Alaska Fire Fighter I and II certifications
  • Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting certification
  • Valid driver's license as required by state law
  • Experience in supervisory command level law enforcement
  • Knowledge of National Incident Management System and Incident Command System
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Oversee and manage law enforcement, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, and rescue operations
  • Direct hazardous material response and emergency medical services
  • Manage code enforcement and safety compliance at the airport
  • Supervise up to 54 employees including leads, officers, and technicians
  • Manage departmental staffing, equipment, and budget to ensure readiness
  • Make recommendations and enforce departmental policies
  • Assume full departmental command in the Chief's absence
