Job Description

San Bernardino County Department of Airports is a critical agency responsible for managing and operating six general aviation airports spread across the largest county in the continental United States. These airports serve a variety of roles, including support for military operations, public safety agencies, and general aviation needs. Notable among these airports are the Chino Airport, which acts as a reliever for the Ontario International Airport and hosts a unique collection of World War II era aircraft, and the Apple Valley Airport, home to numerous sport aircraft. Job Requirements

  • education equivalent to 60 semester units in relevant fields
  • at least two years of relevant progressively responsible airport experience
  • obtain AAAE Certified Member certification within six months of employment
  • ability to pass pre-employment screening including fingerprinting, credit check, and medical exam
  • no requirement for visa sponsorship
  • ability to perform duties at various county airport locations
  • strong organizational and analytical skills
  • valid driver license

Job Qualifications

  • 60 semester units (90 quarter units) in Airport Management, Business, or Public Administration, or related field
  • two years of progressively responsible experience at a general aviation airport in finance, administration, planning, construction, environmental compliance, operations, maintenance, communications, or community relations
  • AAAE Airport Certified Employee (ACE) certification in Airfield Operations, Safety Management Systems, or Planning and Environmental may substitute for up to 12 semester units of education
  • strong knowledge of federal and state aviation regulations
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • experience in project coordination and contract management
  • ability to respond effectively to emergencies

Job Duties

  • Interpret and enforce federal, state, and county aviation regulations
  • prepare and maintain necessary records, reports, and correspondence
  • coordinate Airport Master Plans and Capital Improvement Programs
  • monitor construction projects for adherence to plans and specifications
  • plan and coordinate repairs from unanticipated airport impacts
  • assist with expenditure analysis and insurance claim justifications
  • manage contracts and monitor compliance
  • conduct regulatory inspections to ensure policy adherence
  • promote airport activities and present information to boards and public groups
  • respond to emergencies and prepare investigative reports
  • develop and implement safety training programs
  • analyze and recommend policies to increase efficiency
  • provide relief for Airport Managers or Maintenance Supervisors as needed
