Job Requirements

  • BA/BS in Aviation, Airport Management or related field required
  • Additional experience may substitute for degree on two-for-one basis
  • Six months experience as an Operation Specialist at a Part 139 air carrier airport preferred
  • Must complete and pass Vermont Hunter Safety Course
  • Knowledge of FAR part 139 required
  • Working knowledge of TSAR Part 1540 and 1542 required
  • Must pass ten year fingerprint based criminal background check and Security Threat Assessment for SIDA badge
  • Must pass FAA approved Movement Area Operator driver training
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work rotating shifts
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • May be required to be on call
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Flexible team player with safety conscious and customer oriented attitude

  • Must pass FAA approved driver training course for Movement Area Operator certification
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written

Job Duties

  • Conduct daily inspections of runways, taxiways, ramps and other aeronautical areas in accordance with Federal, State and Aviation operational standards
  • Conduct wildlife management in accordance with BTV's Wildlife Hazard Management Plan including carrying and discharging firearms, pyrotechnics and other wildlife management techniques
  • Operate runway, taxiway, and ramp surface equipment to determine and report field conditions during air carrier operations
  • Make immediate and vital decisions affecting continuation of air and ground operations during emergency conditions and snow removal operations
  • Ensure safe and secure operation of BTV by implementing and enforcing airport rules at the day-to-day operations level
  • Assist in coordinating response to aircraft emergencies, HAZMAT incidents, and medical emergencies within the terminal
  • Maintain and update FAA approved Airport Certification Manual under supervision of Director of Operations
  • Monitor and transmit on FAA local Common Traffic Advisory Frequency, FAA Boston Center Frequency, and other local frequencies while ATC Tower is closed
  • Serve as Alternate Airport Security Coordinator to communicate and cooperate on security and customer service matters with TSA, Police, Customs, and others
  • Respond to trouble alarms and tenant complaints
  • Ensure all airport tenants, employees, and contractors who drive on airfield receive operations standard training course
  • Implement current Security Directives issued by the Transportation Security Administration
  • Coordinate ongoing airfield and terminal construction activities safely with air carrier and terminal operations
  • Provide a variety of administrative support including filing, copying, and writing reports
  • Ensure public concerns and interests related to Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport are met timely and informatively
