Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum three years experience in emergency communications center performing call taking and dispatch for law enforcement, fire, or EMS within the last five years or equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Completion of required security clearance and training within three months of employment
  • Ability to complete six month probationary period

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years experience in emergency communications center or equivalent training and experience
  • Familiarity with emergency management and incident command system preferred
  • Proficient in operating multi-line telephone systems, two-way radios, electronic office equipment, and computers
  • Knowledge of computer aided dispatch or task-specific data entry software, spreadsheets, word processors, and databases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Strong work ethic and proactive approach to serving others
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, unpredictable environment
  • Availability for flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Competence with computers, faxes, email, phone systems, internet, and troubleshooting minor system issues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and keyboarding at 40 wpm
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks and drug screenings
  • Security Identification Display Area training and certification within three months
  • Completion of APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator I certification
  • FEMA ICS-100 and ICS-700 certifications
  • Commitment to continuing education and training
  • Ability to complete probationary period successfully

Job Duties

  • Operate airport authority communication systems including public address system, multi-line telephone system, two-way radio system, in-house courtesy and emergency telephones
  • Monitor electronic access system and alarm monitoring systems to detect security breaches, fire and burglar alarms, and serious malfunctions
  • Prepare and maintain documentation to record details and activities and incidents
  • Monitor Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) and Field Condition Reports
  • Monitor closed circuit television (CCTV) and perform video surveillance, report any security and safety concerns
  • Maintain situational awareness of incidents or events impacting airport operations including traffic, weather, emergencies, or planned events
  • Facilitate communication between FAA Tower, Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), and airport police and fire units during emergencies
  • Manage airport security access points including verification of door alarms, badge deactivations, badge/key control, and authorization of access to secured areas
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs
  • Conduct emergency and safety training, drills, and exercises
  • Serve as liaison to internal departments and external agencies
  • Provide customer assistance for paging, flight information, and security badge training
  • Act as after-hours point of contact for tenants, vendors, and deliveries
  • Receive, process and manage lost and found property
  • Represent department in projects, programs, and activities with air carriers and tenants
  • Assist with annual operating budget development and administration
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
