Job Description

The Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport (LPSIA) is a key transportation hub serving the city of Lubbock and the surrounding West Texas region. As a vital connector for travelers and commerce, the airport operates a centralized Airport Operations Communication Center responsible for maintaining safety, security, and operational efficiency throughout the facility. Job Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of customer service or related experience
  • Ability to obtain TCOLE Telecommunications License within one year
  • Must pass Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility
  • Must pass federal security background investigation for Department of Homeland Security/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) airport security identification
  • Must pass TSA Security Threat Assessment
  • Must complete Airport Security training as required by TSA
  • Ability to work any shift, holidays and mandatory overtime
  • Must maintain effective communication skills under stressful conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of customer service or related experience
  • TCOLE Telecommunications License preferred or the ability to obtain within one year of employment
  • Prefer completion of two years of college coursework and experience providing emergency dispatch services

Job Duties

  • Control a centralized communications center which includes monitoring and operating multiple computer systems for emergency and non-emergency situations involving airport police, other law enforcement agencies, airport operations, building maintenance, and airport rescue and fire fighting
  • coordinate day-to-day activities of the airport through the 24-hour Airport Operations Communications Center providing first point of contact airport communications for airport agencies and general public
  • prepare and disseminate information concerning critical airfield conditions and hazards to the national airspace system via Notice-to-Airmen (NOTAM), and to airlines, tenants, operators, ATCT and other airport divisions
  • act as the central airport coordination and communications center during airfield emergencies
  • maintain accurate and complete log book entries and manual records of airport events
  • communicate effectively and concisely, sometimes under stressful conditions
  • answer airport's main telephone line, provide basic information to traveling public, route calls to individuals and appropriate divisions
