Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • two to four years of experience in construction trades or related skill trades
  • background in carpentry, electrical or plumbing preferred
  • ability to acquire knowledge of FAA Airport Traffic Control procedures
  • ability to effectively communicate with Air Traffic control and maintenance vehicle operators
  • ability to maintain effective working relationships in a team
  • ability to acquire skills in operating heavy equipment
  • working knowledge of small tools and equipment
  • ability to maintain personal and public safety
  • ability to obtain and maintain valid Vermont State Driver's License
  • ability to work in inclement weather conditions
  • willingness to learn and follow VOSHA safety rules and regulations
  • flexible team player with safety and customer orientation
  • ability to maintain professional appearance and conduct
  • regular attendance
  • ability to understand and comply with city policies
  • must obtain valid driver’s license within 45 days of hire

Job Duties

  • operate heavy equipment including but not limited to bucket loaders with multi attachments, excavator, skid steer, forklift, bulldozers, tractors, dump trucks sweepers, blowers, high-speed runway plows, vacuum sweeper etc
  • clean runways, taxiways and ramp areas of asphalt chips and debris
  • repair and maintain airport roads, runways, and taxiways
  • patch holes, lay asphalt and regrade for proper storage consistent with VOSHA and City safety standards
  • operate high-speed airport specific snow removal equipment on runways, taxiways and ramps including spreading de-icer and sand
  • communicate with FAA Air Traffic Control for clearance onto movement areas
  • maintain signage and pavement markings on roadway system, airfield runway and taxiway system and parking garage
  • assist airport electricians with airfield lighting system and electrical construction or renovation
  • assist vehicle mechanics with general equipment maintenance
  • remove rubber from runway surfaces by chemically washing and flushing
  • perform construction and maintenance duties on ramps including operating jackhammers and cut saws, mix, pour and apply concrete
  • raise or lower storm drain and service covers
  • perform various maintenance and repair in terminal building including painting, sealing, carpentry, glazing, basic plumbing, electrical and HVAC repairs, and wood working
  • perform general airport maintenance such as fence and gate repairs
  • empty trash barrels and handle hazardous waste per regulations
  • maintain grass areas including mowing and landscaping
  • load and unload vehicles
  • perform related work as required
  • act as ambassador for the City with respectful and professional interaction with co-workers and the public
  • carry out work in the field and interact courteously
  • operate City or personal vehicles as required for City business
