Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of experience in construction trades or related skilled trades
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Must obtain Class B CDL within one year of hire
  • Must pass background checks and obtain Airport SIDA badge
  • Ability to communicate effectively via radio
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Ability to work irregular hours including weekends, holidays and on-call
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor including lifting
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Commitment to adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment
  • Must learn and comply with airport communications and on-field safety procedures

  • Four years of experience in construction trades or related skilled trades including carpentry, electrical, or plumbing
  • Previous training and experience with highway and construction equipment preferred
  • Obtain and maintain Class B CDL within 1 year of hire
  • Acquire understanding of airport communications and procedures
  • Sufficient hearing and vision for traffic sounds and airport communications
  • Attend federally mandated maintenance trainings and safety briefings
  • Effective communication skills including radio communication with Air Traffic Control
  • Maintain effective working relationships in a team environment
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication methods
  • Complete annual forklift, scissor-lift, and man-lift training
  • Develop skills to operate heavy equipment and airport-specific snow removal machinery
  • Knowledge of small tools and equipment
  • Maintain a valid state driver’s license
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to bucket loaders with multi attachments, excavator, skid steer, forklift, bulldozers, tractors, dump trucks, sweepers, blowers, high-speed runway plows, vacuum sweeper, landscape mowers and similar equipment
  • Assist with snow, ice, and contaminant removal by operating airport-specific equipment on open and closed runways, taxiways and ramps, and safety areas to include the application of surface deicer and sand
  • Operate vehicles, equipment, and tools for the removal of ice, snow, and other contaminants, and for the application of deicer and sand on airport roads, sidewalks, and parking garage surfaces
  • Remove foreign object debris (FOD) hazardous to aircraft by cleaning runways, taxiways and ramp areas using appropriate equipment and tools
  • Repair and maintain airport roads, runways, ramps, taxiways and safety areas by patching holes, laying asphalt, grading and grass preparation and seeding as necessary
  • Perform construction, renovation and maintenance of paved asphalt and concrete surfaces by operating jackhammers, circular saws and other tools
  • Maintain vegetated areas on and off the airfield by mowing taxiways and runways, landscaping and grounds maintenance
  • Communicate effectively via radio with air traffic controllers and other employees ensuring safe access to runways and taxiways
  • Maintain signage and painted markings on roadways, parking garage, runways, taxiways, and ramps using paint stencils and application procedures
  • Produce signs and decals using vinyl printers, laminating machines and related equipment
  • Assist relocation of property and tenant spaces for concessionaires, airlines and other tenants
  • Assist airport electricians and equipment maintenance technicians with electrical construction, vehicle maintenance, welding and plow blade changes
  • Maintain stormwater covers and outfalls, performing sediment removal and repairs
  • Perform building maintenance including painting, sealing, carpentry, plumbing, woodworking, fence and gate repairs, and automatic door repairs
  • Maintain and replace specialized mechanical equipment such as car wash, baggage belt and jet bridge components
  • Assist with waste, hazmat, and recycling collection, storage and disposal
  • Follow safety protocols with proper use of personal protective equipment
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Load and unload vehicles using manual or forklift methods
  • Act as an ambassador for the city and airport while interacting professionally with coworkers and the public
  • Participate in and conduct peer-to-peer training
  • Assist the Working Foreperson with maintaining inventories and coordinating with contractors and suppliers
  • Support on and off airport events including safety, security, crowd and traffic control, and setup and breakdown
  • Escort and monitor contractors ensuring compliance with airport safety procedures and FAA standards
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
