Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support city diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts
  • Must pass background checks and adhere to airport credential policies
  • Must obtain a Class B CDL within one year of hire
  • Working knowledge of highway and construction equipment is preferred
  • Must acquire an understanding of airport communications and procedures
  • Sufficient hearing and vision to detect traffic sounds and airport communications
  • Must maintain effective communication and relationships within team
  • Must complete mandated safety trainings and operate equipment safely
  • Must be flexible, safety conscious, customer-oriented, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call situations
  • Must maintain a valid State Driver’s License and have the ability to be covered under city vehicle insurance
  • Must adhere to all safety, security, and personnel policies
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and behavior in the workplace
  • Regular attendance is essential
  • May be required to respond to airport emergencies and callback calls
  • Must follow VOSHA safety rules
  • Must adhere to FAA and TSA regulations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of experience in construction trades or related skill trades with background in carpentry, electrical, or plumbing
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with ongoing training
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships in a team environment
  • Proficient in operating small tools and heavy equipment
  • Must pass background checks and maintain airport credentials including Airport SIDA badge
  • Ability to complete annual training for forklift, scissor-lift, and man-lift operation
  • Ability to learn and operate airport-specific snow removal equipment
  • Knowledge of safety rules and adherence to FAA, TSA, state, and local regulations
  • Ability to work under varying weather conditions and irregular hours including on call for emergencies
  • Valid State Driver’s License

Job Duties

  • Operate heavy equipment including bucket loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, bulldozers, tractors, dump trucks, sweepers, and snow removal equipment
  • Assist with snow, ice, and contaminant removal on runways, taxiways, ramps, and safety areas
  • Remove foreign object debris from runways and taxiways
  • Repair and maintain airport roads, runways, ramps, and taxiways through patching, asphalt laying, grading, and seeding
  • Perform construction, renovation, and maintenance of paved surfaces using tools like jackhammers and circular saws
  • Maintain vegetated areas including mowing and landscaping in compliance with safety and aesthetic standards
  • Communicate effectively with air traffic control and team members to ensure safe operations
  • Maintain signage and painted markings on roadways and airfield surfaces
  • Assist with relocation of property and tenant spaces
  • Support airport electricians and equipment maintenance technicians with repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and safety protocols
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Participate in peer-to-peer training and assist with inventory management
  • Provide support during airport events including safety, security, and traffic control
  • Escort and monitor contractors for compliance with safety and FAA standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned including seasonal projects for other city departments
