Job Requirements
- Two years of experience working at a commercial airport for promotional candidates
- One year of maintenance work in building or mechanical trades or part-time equivalent for open non-competitive candidates
- One year of maintenance work in property maintenance, landscaping, or snow-plowing or part-time equivalent for open non-competitive candidates
- One year of driving a CDL vehicle or part-time equivalent for open non-competitive candidates
- Possession of valid Class A or Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) or permit to obtain one at time of appointment
- Obligation to obtain valid CDL within 12 months of appointment
- Ability to meet physical requirements including use of eyesight and hearing, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, use of arms and hands, and lifting up to 75 pounds
- Must pass pre-employment background check, security clearance, and drug test
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in maintenance work related to construction, landscaping, facility maintenance, or mechanical trades
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy motor equipment and vehicles
- Familiarity with radio communication technology
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Strong commitment to safety and professionalism
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and public
- Physically able to perform manual labor including lifting up to 75 pounds
Job Duties
- Assist trades staff with airfield maintenance work
- Inspect and repair black top roadways, runways, taxiways, and aircraft ramp areas including striping and painting
- Perform routine groundskeeping such as cutting grass, raking, weeding, brush clearing, snow clearing, and trimming shrubbery
- Wash and paint walls, signs, floors, and windows
- Maintain and clean vehicles, equipment, and tools including inspecting, topping off fluids, greasing, and replacing small parts
- Operate heavy motor equipment such as plows, front end loaders, skid steers, sweepers, dump trucks, tractors, and sanders
- Diagnose and report equipment issues to crew leaders and mechanics
- Use radios to communicate effectively with the FAA tower in compliance with federal regulations
- Respond to and assist during aircraft emergencies, equipment failures, lighting failures, hazardous incidents, and other emergency situations in coordination with fire, police, airport director, and FAA personnel
