Job Requirements
- Two years of experience working at a commercial airport for promotional candidates
- One year of maintenance work or part-time equivalent in building or mechanical trades for open non-competitive candidates
- One year of maintenance work or part-time equivalent in property maintenance, landscaping, or snow-plowing for open non-competitive candidates
- One year of driving a CDL vehicle or part-time equivalent for open non-competitive candidates
- Possession or permit to obtain a valid Class A or B commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements at time of appointment
- Must obtain valid Class A or B CDL within 12 months of appointment
- Ability to work any shift including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check, security clearance, and drug test
Job Qualifications
- Working knowledge of practices, tools, and materials used in large scale general maintenance and repair of airport buildings, roadways, and grounds
- Skilled in one or more of construction, landscape, facility maintenance, or mechanical trades
- Ability to operate and maintain motor and heavy equipment used in airport maintenance work
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to effectively use radio communication technology
- Basic understanding of computers
- Ability to work professionally and respectfully with diverse employees, tenants, vendors, and the public
- Ability to meet physical requirements including eyesight, hearing, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, use of arms and hands, and lifting up to 75 lbs
Job Duties
- Assist trades staff when performing airfield maintenance work
- Inspect and repair blacktop roadways, runways, taxiways, and aircraft ramp areas, including striping and painting of pavement markings
- Perform routine groundskeeping such as cutting grass, raking, weeding, brush clearing, clearing snow during snow events, trimming shrubbery, and general repairs
- Wash and paint walls, signs, floors, and windows
- Perform general and advanced cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition
- Operate plows, front end loaders, skid steers, sweepers, dump trucks, tractors, sanders, and other heavy equipment
- Diagnose and report issues to crew leaders and mechanics
- Operate radios to communicate clearly with FAA tower in accordance with federal regulations
- Respond to and assist during aircraft emergencies, facility equipment failures, airfield navigational aide and lighting failures, building and structure emergencies, pavement failures, hazardous incidents, and related emergency situations
