Job Description

The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) is responsible for providing fire protection and related emergency services to various Air National Guard Bases (ANGB) located within New York State. Operating under the Air National Guard Fire Protection Activities (ANGFPA) Program, these services are delivered in compliance with the Master Cooperative Agreement (MCA) between the State of New York and the National Guard Bureau (NGB), as well as other relevant regulations, standards, and agreements. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum age 18
  • meet EMS requirements
  • current CPR certification
  • meet required physical fitness and agility standards prior to employment and annually
  • valid driver’s license in New York state
  • acquire and maintain ANG requirements for operation of firefighting equipment and vehicles including possible military driver’s license
  • obtain and maintain favorable background investigation and clearance including NACI
  • report any change in driver’s license status
  • maintain all certification levels
  • maintain physical fitness and agility standards
  • comply with all current agency, statutory and NGB requirements
  • work 24-hour shifts including weekends and holidays
  • work in confined spaces and at heights
  • wear personal protective equipment
  • maintain grooming and uniform standards
  • reliable transportation or means of contact

  • perform overtime and travel as required

Job Qualifications

  • possess department of defense fire fighter ii and hazmat operations certifications or equivalent, possess or obtain within 11 months department of defense airport fire fighter, driver/operator pumper, driver/operator aircraft rescue fire fighter and driver/operator tender certifications or equivalent, high school diploma or equivalent (GED), current CPR certification, meet EMS requirements, maintain physical fitness and agility standards annually, maintain valid driver’s license in New York state, obtain and maintain clearance and appropriate background investigations including national agency check with inquiry, maintain required certifications and standards to avoid disciplinary action, good verbal and written communication skills, good computer skills specifically with microsoft office suite, ability to prepare clear and concise written material, ability to work well with different groups including federal and state personnel

Job Duties

  • fire suppression and emergency response for aerospace vehicles, perform rescue operations including aircraft egress, confined space, structural collapse, automobile, and equipment extraction, respond to bomb threats, anti-hijacking, terrorist threats, respond to structural, motor vehicle, natural cover, wildfires, and all other fires, hazardous materials response, mutual aid and reciprocal agreement response, participate in installation exercises, training and assessments, provide emergency medical services within scope, verify building and extinguisher inspection and maintenance, perform inspections and operator maintenance on all assigned vehicles and equipment, monitor alarm equipment and initiate appropriate responses, perform facility and fire systems inspections, customer training, fire prevention practices, extinguisher inspections and maintenance, perform administrative duties including data entry, operate firefighting equipment and motor vehicles, maintain required certification levels, maintain physical fitness and agility standards, report medical condition changes to physician, maintain CPR and EMS certifications, wear personal protective equipment, maintain grooming and uniform standards, safely drive and operate all assigned vehicles, work at heights and in confined spaces, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, maintain fire department facilities, prepare written material, attend all required training, perform periodic overtime and travel, perform other assigned duties
