Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation management, transportation, business management or related field preferred
  • five years progressive experience in airport management, municipal aviation industry, or related field preferred
  • minimum three years in a supervisor capacity
  • current valid Texas Class C driver's license and insurable
  • ability to obtain Emergency Management Team responsibilities and training certifications including FEMA ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300, ICS 400, ICS 700, ICS 800 and Professional Development Series during employment
  • knowledge of FAA regulations and airport systems
  • ability to work beyond normal business hours during emergencies
  • strong communication and leadership skills
  • ability to manage multiple projects and budgets
  • proactive and detail-oriented

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation management, transportation, business management or related field preferred
  • five years progressive experience in airport management, municipal aviation, or related field preferred
  • minimum three years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives and private pilot license is a plus
  • knowledge of FAA regulations, airport management, aviation fueling, safety, and security
  • strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • experience in budget development and oversight
  • leadership skills in crisis and disaster management
  • proactive problem-solving abilities
  • bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Job Duties

  • Develops and administers operational policies and rules regarding airport security, safety, and facility operation and maintenance
  • negotiates and administers airport leases, contracts and agreements with tenants and contractors
  • develops, recommends, and monitors airport improvement and development projects
  • research and prepare federal and state grant proposals and administers grants
  • meets with Airport Advisory Board and City Manager to keep them apprised of airport activities and obtain direction and support
  • develops and manages the airport budget including capital expenditure projects
  • monitors revenues and expenditures within budgetary constraints
  • communicates with city employees, tenants, vendors, management, contractors, business owners, developers, real estate brokers, aircraft owners, pilots, fixed-base operators, and the public
  • prepares correspondence and financial documents
  • manages airport operations including security, environmental compliance, parking, ground transportation, and general aviation programs
  • enforces regulations for flights, airport operations, and public safety
  • oversees staff training, development and performance evaluations
  • oversees fuel facilities for delivery of aviation fuels according to standards
  • coordinates with government agencies including FAA and CBP on inspections and certifications
  • participates in long-range strategic planning and Airport Master Plan updates
  • works beyond normal hours as required for emergency situations
