Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree in social science, general studies, business administration or related field required
  • Three years experience as telecommunicator in major airport terminal or similar facility required
  • Ability to pass criminal background check
  • Ability to obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances
  • Willingness to work shift work including rotating schedule, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as stooping, bending, and occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to handle occasional exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions
  • Ability to make coordinated gross motor movements and eye-hand movements within job demands
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to handle complex communication calls

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Social Science, General Studies, Business Administration or a closely related field
  • Three years of experience as a telecommunicator in a major airport terminal or related major facility handling a variety of communications equipment
  • Directly related paraprofessional or professional experience in communication operations, airport operations, airport security, or airport safety above the required years of experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis
  • Prior experience in medium to high volume dispatch, communications, or call center preferred
  • CCTV experience a plus
  • Ability to monitor multiple screens highly desirable
  • Certification in NIMS IS-100, NIMS IS-200, TCLEOSE or TCOLE Certification, A.A.A.E ACE Certification preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite a plus

Job Duties

  • Coordinate information flow during emergency situations to appropriate personnel
  • Monitor the activities of the communications section to ensure service delivery standards are met and comply with airport operating procedures
  • Prepare work schedules to ensure that sufficient shift employees are available for workload demands
  • Monitor and document attendance of employees
  • Review office operations to identify technical and operation training needs
  • Provide training for employees on the operation of communications equipment and airport operating procedures
  • Provide guidance, training and support to employees and resolve grievances
  • Counsel employees regarding performance and handle related disciplinary actions
  • Handle complaints or inquiries from the public, airport tenants and other City departments relative to communications activities
  • Inspect and test working conditions of communications equipment
  • Ensure communications equipment is operational and prepare documentation to repair, upgrade, or replace communications when required
  • May handle complex communications calls
