The Houston Airport System (HAS) manages George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), a major hub facilitating millions of passengers and countless flight operations annually. As an essential public agency, HAS is dedicated to ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient functioning of its airport facilities. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum one year experience in airport or related communication role
  • Ability to work shift schedules including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required
  • Ability to handle stressful and emergency situations calmly
  • Basic physical ability including occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds
  • Willingness to work extended hours during emergencies
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external parties
  • Proficiency in multi-tasking and coordinating multiple communication channels concurrently

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of experience handling communications in a major airport terminal or related facility
  • Ability to operate multiple communication systems simultaneously
  • Strong multitasking and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with dispatch, communications, or call center environments preferred
  • Familiarity with CCTV monitoring is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is a plus
  • Certifications such as NIMS IS-100, NIMS IS-200, TCLEOSE or TCOLE, or A.A.A.E. ACE Certification preferred
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Must pass criminal background check

Job Duties

  • Operate airport telephone exchange and public address systems including TDDs
  • Provide routine information to customers about airline arrivals, departures, traffic, parking, lost luggage, and emergencies
  • Receive and direct public calls for lost vehicles, tows, injuries, and maintenance issues
  • Broadcast emergency and hazardous condition information as per airport procedures
  • Enter and update airline schedules, flight data, gate, and baggage carousel assignments
  • Monitor access control systems for unauthorized access and notify authorities of civil defense alerts
  • Relay repair service calls and update maintenance tracking systems
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor
