Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls at any time
  • Ability to use keyboard devices, computers, and communications equipment
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and make timely notifications
  • Ability to work in inclement weather

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in emergency communications or related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of airport operations, aviation security, and emergency management systems
  • Ability to operate complex telecommunications and computer systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make rapid decisions
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws related to airport security
  • Ability to provide training and guidance to new operators
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Office, Outlook, and common software applications

Job Duties

  • Operates related technology and responds to radio, telephone, email, alarm, CCTV, and other data transmitted into the AOC facility
  • Provides for the triage of incoming data to prioritize the handling of emergency incidents
  • Provides quality customer service on all interactions with the public and AOC supported operations
  • Dispatches Police, Fire / EMS, Security, maintenance, and airport operations personnel to the incidents based upon established protocols and Telecommunications Supervisor direction
  • Monitors video surveillance systems and relays observations to responders upon request
  • Monitors security access control systems, duress alarms and coordinates security and law enforcement responses
  • Trains the newly hired operators via on-the-job training
  • Operates the paging and public information systems
  • Operates the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to track, record and prioritize incidents and incident responses
  • Provides on-going communications and coordination support to both emergency and non-emergency operations in the field as required
  • Acts decisively when incident conditions change and/or airport staff or facilities are endangered
  • Coordinates communications with off airport responders to airport incidents
  • Conducts detailed and comprehensive briefings to relief Telecommunicators before exiting their workstation
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Manager and/or Telecommunications Supervisors
  • May perform other duties as assigned
