Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service
  • Position may be subject to random drug testing
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
  • Employee must maintain current certifications
  • A security clearance may be required
  • Must possess a USAF Pilot rating and valid aviation service aeronautical order
  • Must have documented military flight hours as required by the grade level
  • Must be able to pass physical fitness standards and other military qualifications
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel as required by the position

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a USAF Pilot rating
  • Hold a valid aviation service aeronautical order
  • Have a minimum of 750 total military flight time for GS-12 pilot
  • Have a minimum of 1,000 total military flight time for GS-13 pilot
  • Have two years of progressively responsible experience in a flying component of the U.S. military for GS-13 flight instructor
  • Have a minimum of 1,200 total military flight time for GS-13 flight instructor
  • Have three years of progressively responsible experience in a flying component of the U.S. military for GS-14 flight instructor
  • Have a minimum of 1,500 total military flight time for GS-14 flight instructor

Job Duties

  • Operate aircraft as a fully qualified, mission-ready pilot in unit type aircraft
  • Accomplish mission planning and briefing, aircraft inspections and checklists, and mission forms and associated paperwork
  • Represent the unit by participating in discussions, meetings or serves on panels or committees
  • Conduct training for the upgrade of unqualified active duty and/or Reserve aircrew members and proficiency training for qualified personnel
  • Analyze and interpret unit training objectives, develop training program and train other aircrew to maintain combat mission-ready proficiency
  • Fly as an aircrew member in unit aircraft in support of the unit mission
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and overseeing the activities of the Operations Group and subordinate Reserve flying squadrons
  • Assist with managing flying and ground training programs for the organization
  • Direct all operations and maintenance training programs for the Squadron
  • Manage Reserve Personnel Appropriation (RPA) and Military Personnel Appropriation (MPA) accounts
  • Implement flying and ground training requirements
