Job Requirements

  • hold an FAA Airplane Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Land ratings or an FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Land rating
  • possess a current FAA first or second-class medical certificate
  • meet minimum flight hours for the applicable GS level
  • provide complete and legible flight logs
  • meet selective placement factors regarding age and service
  • comply with firefighter retirement coverage
  • submit all required documents by the closing date

Job Qualifications

  • possession of an FAA Airplane Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Land ratings or FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with the same ratings
  • current FAA first or second-class medical certificate
  • verified flight hours meeting GS-09, GS-11, or GS-12 level requirements
  • demonstrated experience in multi-engine aircraft operations
  • ability to maintain flight logs with clear documentation
  • strong knowledge of FAA regulations and aviation safety practices

Job Duties

  • operate multi-engine land airplanes for wildfire suppression missions
  • conduct aerial surveys and reconnaissance flights
  • ensure compliance with FAA regulations and Forest Service policies
  • maintain accurate and detailed flight logs and records
  • participate in emergency response and search and rescue operations
  • perform pre-flight and post-flight inspections
  • collaborate with ground personnel and incident command teams
