Job Requirements

  • Membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard prior to placement
  • acceptance of the excepted service position requirements
  • males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service
  • federal employment suitability determined by background investigation
  • successful completion of a trial period if required
  • mandatory participation in direct deposit
  • willingness to travel by military or commercial air
  • ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance
  • flexibility to work non-standard hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training
  • maintenance of USAF medical standards
  • may be required to serve a probationary period of up to two years

Job Qualifications

  • Possess Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military aviation certifications
  • minimum of one year experience in the grade or equivalent military rank below the next level
  • at least two years experience in civilian or military aviation programs
  • experienced in piloting and instructing on fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft
  • skilled in mission planning, flight preparation, and crew briefings
  • experienced in aircraft inspections, loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning
  • knowledgeable in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, reconnaissance, and mission tactics
  • proficient in flight instruments and combat/non-combat mission flying
  • demonstrated ability in aviation safety programs and regulatory compliance
  • experienced in training and instructing other pilots
  • capable of mission leadership and operational risk management
  • experienced with FAA controlled airspace operations and military directives
  • knowledge of aviation unit management and safety programs
  • skilled in conducting night vision and remote site operations
  • experienced in writing and complying with aviation regulations and safety standards

Job Duties

  • Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military airplanes on tactical and non-tactical missions
  • prepare for flights by securing weather info, planning routes, and filing flight plans
  • operate aircraft within flight manual parameters ensuring safety and coordination
  • accomplish post-flight activities including maintaining logs and coordinating maintenance
  • serve as Supervisor of Flying (SOF) overseeing mission safety and flight operations
  • design and coordinate aircrew training programs and flight scheduling
  • develop and maintain unit contingency and safety plans
  • serve as Wing Inspector General advising on compliance and inspection programs
