Job Requirements

  • National Guard membership is required
  • Excepted service position requiring membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state’s National Guard prior to placement
  • Must wear military uniform
  • Must accept conditions of excepted service as condition of employment
  • Must be eligible for immediate National Guard membership if not currently a member
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
  • Federal employment suitability determined by background investigation
  • May require successful completion of 1- or 2-year probation/trial period
  • Participation in direct deposit mandatory
  • Must have current military medical record including physicals and drug test
  • Position subject to Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment prohibiting duties if convicted of qualifying crimes
  • Must provide proof of education documentation
  • Must comply with Military Selective Service registration if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Military grades Officer (2nd Lt/O1 - Lt Col/O5)
  • Minimum one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank below the next higher level
  • At least 24 months of experience in civilian or military aviation programs, preferably with C-17 aircraft
  • Experienced in training and instructing pilot skills
  • Ability to plan, schedule and conduct training flights through FAA controlled national airspace
  • Proficient in applying operational and training directives and standard operating procedures
  • Ability to work independently in planning and executing assignments
  • Experience in conducting missions with combat tactics, mountainous terrain flying, remote site evaluations and night-vision operations
  • Must provide transcripts or documentation to support educational claims

Job Duties

  • Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military airplanes including high performance fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions
  • Prepare for flight by securing weather information and assessing route and destination conditions
  • Operate airplanes with utmost safety
  • Conduct post-flight activities including maintaining airplane logs and forms, writing flight reports, coordinating with maintenance personnel, and performing post-flight checks
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when functioning as Supervisor of Flying (SOF) and ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment of the unit
  • Perform administrative tasks in Air Operations program support functional areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned
