Job Requirements

  • Membership in compatible military assignment in employing state's National Guard
  • Prior to effective date of placement
  • Required to wear military uniform
  • Acceptance of excepted service position conditions
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
  • Federal employment suitability via background investigation
  • May require successful completion of trial period
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit
  • May require travel by military or commercial air
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance
  • May work other than normal duty hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training
  • Maintain USAF military pilot medical standards
  • May serve up to two-year probationary period upon acceptance
  • Undergraduate degree from accredited college or university
  • FAA or military aviation certifications from accredited programs

Job Qualifications

  • Military grade 2nd LT through Lt Col
  • Minimum one year on-the-job experience in relevant grade or comparable military rank
  • Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or equivalent military certifications
  • At least two years experience in civilian or military aviation programs
  • Skilled in piloting and instructing on fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft
  • Knowledge of mission planning, preflight procedures, and operational directives
  • Experienced in supervising mission preparations and crew briefings
  • Proficient in aviation safety program management
  • Experienced in flight theory, navigation, meteorology, and combat tactics
  • Able to operate advanced aircraft instrumentation and perform complex missions
  • Experienced in developing training programs and conducting evaluations
  • Able to work independently and apply operational risk management
  • Knowledgeable in Air Force, National Guard, and FAA regulations and policies

Job Duties

  • Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions
  • Prepare for flights including weather checks, flight planning, and preflight inspections
  • Operate aircraft following flight manuals and communicate with ground control
  • Perform post-flight duties such as maintaining logs and coordinating maintenance
  • Serve as Supervisor of Flying, overseeing unit flying activities and making mission-critical decisions
  • Rotate through administrative roles in training, scheduling, planning, safety, and Inspector General support
  • Conduct safety inspections, accident investigations, and implement safety programs
