Job Description
This position is for an Air Reserve Technician (ART), which is a unique role combining elements of civilian employment with military service in the Air Force Reserve. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Being an ART means you serve as a full-time civil service employee while also fulfilling military duties in the Air Force Reserve. Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Must be a current member of the Air Force Reserve or qualified/willing to join
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
- Males must be registered for Selective Service
- This is a drug testing designated position and subject to random testing
- Must comply with DoD Priority Placement Program provisions
- Direct deposit is required for federal employees
- Must be willing to relocate with PCS expenses paid as per regulations
- Must meet both civilian and military qualifications including age, height, weight, and physical fitness standards
- One year time-in-grade at GS-12 required to qualify for GS-13 if applicable
- Disclosure of political appointments required
- Eligible for 25% recruitment and relocation bonus
Job Qualifications
- Must have been awarded or qualify for a USAF Navigator or Combat Systems Officer rating
- Possess a valid aviation service aeronautical order
- Minimum of 1,000 total military flight hours
- Instructor qualified in unit aircraft and MDS
- Knowledge of rated aviator expertise and pilot skills
- Knowledge of formulating flying operation plans and policies
- Knowledge of unit-assigned aircraft capabilities and limitations
- Ability to resolve complex issues and maintain work relations
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Experience with part-time, unpaid, or volunteer work considered as relevant
- Must meet specialized OPM Qualification Standards for ART flying positions
Job Duties
- Conduct training for the upgrade of unqualified active duty and/or reserve aircrew members and proficiency training for qualified active duty, reservists and ART personnel
- Analyze and interpret unit training objectives, develop training programs and train aircrew to maintain combat mission-ready proficiency
- Fly as an aircrew member in unit aircraft in support of the unit mission, including night vision operations and terrain-specific flying
- Establish training programs to optimize use of training facilities and avoid duplication of training effort
- Represent the unit by participating in discussions, meetings or serve on panels or committees
- Prepare and deliver briefings and training sessions to support flight training and operations
- Ensure adherence to training standards and operational requirements during flying missions
