Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years safety and/or security operations experience with six months recent airfield operations experience
  • Valid California Class C driver license or ability to obtain prior to employment
  • Ability to undergo criminal history record check including FBI fingerprinting and TSA security clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Customs Access Seal for unescorted access
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including day, swing, night, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work overtime and respond to emergency situations
  • Physical and emotional capability to perform under stressful conditions including exposure to adverse weather and high noise
  • Compliance with all City and County of San Francisco employment policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of safety and/or security operations experience at an airport, airbase, airline, or military base with six months recent airfield operations experience
  • Possession or ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver license
  • Knowledge of FAA rules and regulations, including CFR Part 139, Part 77, and FAA Advisory Circulars 150 series
  • Working knowledge of CFR Part 1542
  • Excellent communication skills including aviation phraseology and public safety communications
  • Experience as a first responder in airfield operations
  • Familiarity with FEMA National Incident Management System and Incident Command System
  • Pilot’s certificate (desirable)
  • Experience with AAAE Airport Certified Employee (ACE) Operations or Security (desirable)

Job Duties

  • Inspects and evaluates airfield facilities including runways, taxiways, safety areas, lighting, signage, markings, and security-related assets
  • Closes and reopens airfield facilities such as runways, taxiways, ramps, and gates dependent on safe and secure conditions
  • Monitors and directs movement of vehicles, persons, and equipment on the airfield providing escort and safety/security support
  • Notifies aeronautical users of airfield condition changes and monitors multiple radios to ensure safety and security
  • Verifies compliance with aircraft parking to maximize facility utilization
  • Enforces airport regulations and issues citations for violations
  • Responds to security breaches, violations, and emergencies, acting as first responder and administering first aid
  • Investigates airfield incidents and accidents, recommending corrective actions
  • Conducts wildlife surveys and performs wildlife management and eradication duties
  • Develops and administers training programs and standard operating procedures
  • Monitors and coordinates maintenance and construction on the airfield ensuring safety and security
  • Performs other duties associated with the job classification
