Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum two years recent organizational level aircraft maintenance experience desired
  • Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver license if resident of North Carolina
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments both ashore and afloat including aircraft carriers
  • Must be able to work primarily outdoors under all weather conditions with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes
  • Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Must meet physical requirements including standing, climbing, bending and stooping
  • Must pass and maintain a U.S. government background security check and fingerprinting
  • Must be able to obtain security clearance for public trust
  • Must obtain and maintain facility credentials and authorizations
  • U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials and authorization at this work location

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum two years actual and recent organizational level aircraft maintenance experience desired
  • Knowledge and use of special tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks
  • Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Prior military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum preferred
  • FAA issued A&P license preferred
  • Prior experience with U.S. Navy aviation on F/A-18 aircraft highly preferred
  • Experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director preferred

Job Duties

  • Direct incoming and outgoing aircraft near terminal or flight line parking area
  • Assist pilots with maneuvering aircraft on the ground using hand or light signals
  • Secure aircraft in parking position with chocks and tie downs
  • Perform aircraft flight line servicing including fueling and oil replenishment
  • Conduct pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections and enter servicing details into maintenance records
  • Check for fuel contamination by draining sumps and fuel drains
  • Operate ground support equipment such as electrical power supply, tow tractors, and engine starting units
  • Examine tires for specified air pressure and condition
  • Assist in towing aircraft
  • Clean exterior and interior of aircraft
  • Perform hangar deck housekeeping and fluid spill cleanup using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Work rotating shifts and travel for detachments both ashore and afloat including aircraft carriers
