Job Requirements

  • Paramedic certification from an accredited certified paramedic program
  • Associate's of Applied Science degree in paramedic studies or equivalent
  • Three years of Emergency Service experience preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Applicable state-OEMS certification as EMT-P required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Pediatric Advanced Life Support may be required within one year
  • Critical care certificate or national registry paramedic preferred
  • Maintains certification through approved applicable state-OEMS education provider
  • Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to evaluate and respond to verbal and nonverbal communication for diverse developmental stages
  • Ability to push stretchers, wheelchairs, carts, and equipment
  • Ability to lift and position patients using assistive devices or personnel
  • Proficient computer skills for electronic patient care documentation
  • Ability to perform duties in compliance with state, federal laws, and institutional policies

Job Qualifications

  • Proficient in evaluating and responding to communication across diverse patient populations
  • Ability to build rapport with hospital personnel, providers, patients, and visitors
  • Proficient computer skills for electronic documentation
  • Ability to lift, position patients, and push equipment using assistive devices as appropriate
  • Adherence to state and federal laws, local ordinances, and institutional policies and protocols

Job Duties

  • Provide patient and family centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs
  • Rapidly evaluate life threatening emergencies and implement prescribed therapies within scope of practice
  • Collaborate with nursing and medical team to establish treatment goals
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment ensuring patient privacy and professional behavior
  • Utilize technology and equipment to enhance patient and staff safety
  • Communicate effectively across care continuum as an active healthcare team member
  • Participate in professional practice models including shared governance and peer review
  • Act as patient advocate throughout care continuum including community settings
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes
  • Administer medications, treatments, and protocols within scope under physician orders
  • Perform and maintain competency in point of care testing complying with policies and regulations
  • Document medication, treatment, and patient reassessment in Electronic Medical Record
  • Demonstrate high-level teamwork with Emergency Department care team
  • Support evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Facilitate optimal patient flow through Emergency Department and ensure patient safety and security
