Job Requirements

  • Paramedic certification from accredited paramedic program or associate's degree in paramedic studies
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • State OEMS EMT-P certification
  • Ability to work a 7p-7a schedule on a 2/2/3 rotating basis
  • Ability to lift and move patients up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to provide emergency care in accordance with NCCEP protocols and hospital policies
  • Physical ability to perform standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, finger and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, and seeing tasks
  • Ability to work under stressful and crowded conditions
  • Required to wear PPE
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally via telephone and electronic devices

Job Qualifications

  • Paramedic certification from accredited paramedic program or Associate's of Applied Science degree in paramedic studies or equivalent
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • State OEMS certification as EMT-P
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required within one year in select areas
  • Critical care certificate or national registry paramedic preferred
  • Maintains certification through approved state OEMS education provider
  • Three years of emergency service experience preferred
  • Ability to provide both direct and indirect patient care
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team settings
  • Ability to evaluate and respond to verbal and nonverbal communication from patients across all developmental stages
  • Proficient in electronic documentation of patient care
  • Demonstrated ability to push stretchers, wheelchairs, carts, and equipment
  • Ability to lift and position patients of various weights and heights safely

Job Duties

  • Provides patient and family centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs
  • Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and promoting professional behavior
  • Communicates effectively to promote information sharing throughout the care continuum and with healthcare teams
  • Functions professionally through participation in shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review, and leadership development
  • Acts as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care including in community and all patient settings
  • Identifies clinical priorities and initiates actions to improve patient outcomes
  • Uses medications, treatments, and protocols within scope of practice under physician's orders
  • Performs and maintains competency in point of care testing ensuring compliance with policies and regulations
  • Documents medications, treatments, and patient reassessments in the Electronic Medical Record
  • Demonstrates high-level teamwork with Emergency Department care team members
  • Supports evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Facilitates optimal patient flow and ensures safety and security of all patients in the Emergency Department
