Job Requirements
- meet specialized experience requirements per OPM Qualification Standards
- obtain relevant facility ratings within applicable time limits
- possess or obtain Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate and/or Control Tower Operator Certificate
- pass initial and periodic drug testing per Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program
- meet physical requirements including ability to sit/stand long periods and climb stairs
- comply with age restrictions for entry and mandatory separation
- undergo pre-employment medical evaluation
- submit transcripts if qualifying based on education
- provide proof of foreign education equivalency if applicable
Job Qualifications
- one year of specialized experience at GS-10 level or equivalent
- comprehensive knowledge of air traffic control laws, rules, and regulations
- ability to act decisively under stress
- skill to coordinate plans with pilots and controllers
- judgment to select safest and most effective actions
- effective communication skills
- ability to maintain alertness over long periods
Job Duties
- issue control instructions and advice to pilots for proper separation and safe movement
- coordinate plans and actions with pilots and other controllers
- make rapid and precise decisions under real-time conditions
- maintain alertness during extended periods of pressure
- communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- provide appropriate reporting procedures
- adjust rapidly to changes in traffic patterns and work tempo
