Job Description

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) operates a nationwide system of air traffic control facilities to ensure the safety and efficiency of air travel within the United States. One of the critical components of this system is the Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facilities, which manage the safe and orderly flow of aircraft arriving, departing, and transiting controlled airspace near major airports. Job Requirements

  • US citizenship
  • selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • submission of SF50 form
  • designated or random drug testing
  • current medical clearance
  • ability to work under supervision and independently after certification
  • pass background investigation if required
  • willingness to file financial disclosure within 30 days of entry on duty
  • compliance with FAA drug and alcohol testing program
  • eligibility to work in a federal position

Job Qualifications

  • Must have been facility rated or area certified in an ATO terminal or en route facility
  • meet qualifications by the closing date of the announcement
  • detailed resume supporting qualifications and answers to job questionnaire

Job Duties

  • Provide radar control to aircraft arriving or departing the primary and adjacent airports
  • operate radar and communication equipment to apply radar separation standards and vectoring procedures
  • detect and adjust malfunctions and interferences in equipment
  • issue speed, altitude, and directional instructions to pilots to maintain proper separation
  • provide air traffic advisory services including clearances, weather and field conditions, safety and traffic alerts
  • train developmental air traffic controllers and other employees
  • perform technical functions related to training, briefings, quality assurance, and staff support
  • provide watch supervision for continuous facility operation when a supervisor is not available
  • work under direct supervision initially and independently upon certification
