Job Description

The hiring establishment is a specialized Air Traffic Control facility operating within a Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Air Traffic Control Tower. Air traffic control towers are critical components of the aviation infrastructure, tasked with managing aircraft movements on the ground and within a specified airspace to ensure safety and efficiency. Job Requirements

  • Possess a current Control Tower Operator Certificate
  • Hold a valid Class II Medical Certificate
  • Have at least six months of tower experience with an FAA credential or CTO certificate with facility rating
  • Subject to DOT/FAA drug and/or alcohol testing
  • Ability to work under general supervision and make independent decisions
  • Must be available to perform shift work as required

Job Qualifications

  • Control Tower Operator Certificate with appropriate facility rating
  • Minimum six months experience in an Air Traffic Control Tower
  • Knowledge of IFR and VFR regulations
  • Ability to operate radar and navigational aids
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Familiarity with weather reports and aviation meteorology
  • Capability to provide on-the-job training

Job Duties

  • Make decisions about the order of departures to ensure equitable treatment of aircraft and compliance with IFR clearances
  • Decide on times and directions of takeoff and necessary departure turns
  • Determine if inbound aircraft should land immediately or circle and manage arrival distances
  • Choose active runways and coordinate simultaneous runway use
  • Manage interspersing of arrivals and departures to minimize delays
  • Clear landing and departing aircraft to use runways while maintaining standard separation
  • Sequence arriving traffic before entry into traffic pattern for safe, orderly flow on final approach
