Job Requirements
- Hold a Control Tower Operator Certificate
- have a current Class II Medical Certificate
- be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as per DOT/FAA requirements
- possess minimum six months Air Traffic Control Tower experience with facility or FAA tower rating
- ability to work under general supervision
- willing to perform operational and coordination duties independently

Job Duties
- Make decisions involving the order of departures to ensure equitable treatment and adherence to clearances
- determine times and directions of takeoff and necessary departure turns
- decide if inbound aircraft land immediately or circle and manage distances for arrival control
- select active runways and manage simultaneous use of other runways
- determine time and methods to intersperse arrivals and departures minimizing traffic delay
- clear landing and departing aircraft to use runways assuring standard separation
- manage sequence of arriving traffic on final approach for safe orderly flow
- apply IFR separation standards as delegated for arrival and departure aircraft
- determine usability of communications frequencies and navigational aids
- monitor navigational aids and control panels including BRITE display
- instruct pilots to change radio frequencies and radar beacon codes
- coordinate with other controllers on movement of arrival and departure aircraft
- plan traffic sequencing and separation over extended areas when traffic conditions warrant
- set up checkpoints to maintain traffic separation
- maintain mental picture and evaluation of changing traffic complex
- maintain continuous radio watch with previously contacted aircraft
- handle IFR traffic at assigned airport
- study weather reports and forecasts
- obtain weather certifications
- observe and record local weather conditions including pilot reports
- provide operational information to aircraft such as field conditions, altimeter settings, and navigational aid status
- forward weather and pilot reports to relevant agencies
- operate airport lighting and signaling equipment
- orient pilots who are lost or in difficulty
- determine when to activate airport operations and emergency services
- perform lower grade duties for proficiency
- provide on-the-job training to others
