Job Requirements
- Have a Control Tower Operator Certificate
- hold a current Class II Medical Certificate
- subject to DOT/FAA drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment, random, reasonable cause, and post-accident testing
- minimum of six months experience holding a Control Tower Operator Certificate or FAA credential with tower rating
- demonstrate ability to perform duties independently under general supervision
Job Qualifications
- Possession of a current Control Tower Operator (CTO) Certificate with a facility rating or an FAA credential with tower rating
- minimum of six months experience working in an Air Traffic Control Tower
- current Class II Medical Certificate
- comprehensive knowledge of Air Traffic Control regulations and procedures
- strong decision-making and communication skills
- ability to operate radar, radio communications, and related technological systems
- proficiency in weather interpretation related to air traffic control
- experience with pilot orientation and emergency coordination
Job Duties
- Make decisions involving takeoff orders and times to assure equitable treatment of aircraft and compliance with IFR clearances
- determine active runways and simultaneous runway use
- sequence arriving traffic to ensure safe, orderly flow on final approach
- apply IFR separation standards around the airport as delegated
- coordinate movements of arrival and departure aircraft with other controllers
- preplan traffic sequencing and separation beyond immediate control area
- monitor and use communications frequencies, navigational aids, and control panels
- study weather reports and observe weather changes to provide accurate information to pilots
- operate light guns, runway lighting, and other visual aids
- orient and assist pilots lost or in difficulty
- coordinate with emergency services when necessary
- perform lower grade duties to maintain proficiency
- provide on-the-job training to others
