Job Requirements
- Meet minimum flight hour requirements as specified
- Possess commercial pilot license with appropriate ratings
- Demonstrate experience in mountain, night, and instrument flying
- Ability to perform pilot duties under challenging conditions
- Comply with CAL FIRE seniority displacement provisions
- Willingness to be based at one of CAL FIRE remote bases
- Ability to pass medical and background checks as required
Job Qualifications
- Valid commercial pilot license with multi-engine rating
- Minimum of 1,800 flight hours in airplanes
- At least 800 hours in multi-engine airplanes
- 200 hours of mountain flying experience
- 75 hours of total instrument flight time
- 50 hours of actual instrument flight time
- 100 hours of night flying experience
- Minimum of 10 hours on specific make and model aircraft to be flown
- Experience in aerial firefighting as pilot in command or co-pilot preferred
- Experience flying aircraft with weight classifications over 6,000 lbs
- Proficient knowledge of aviation safety and emergency procedures
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Job Duties
- Conduct aerial firefighting missions as pilot in command or co-pilot
- Operate aircraft safely during mountain, night, and instrument flights
- Perform pre-flight inspections and ensure aircraft readiness
- Coordinate with CAL FIRE ground and aviation teams for mission planning and execution
- Maintain accurate flight logs and comply with all regulatory requirements
- Participate in training and professional development activities
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and emergency procedures
