The Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) Air Operations Section is a vital division within one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the United States. HCSO is responsible for maintaining law and order across Harris County, Texas, which includes the sprawling Houston metropolitan area. Job Requirements
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing conditions
- Maintain physical fitness for safe aircraft operation
- Pass application process and FAA physical
- Successfully complete background investigation and interview
- Pass AOS Chief Pilot’s final performance review
- Ability to work extended periods with physical and mental stamina
- React calmly and make sound decisions in emergencies
- Work in hot and cold environments wearing flight suits
- Work varying shifts including possible overtime and call-outs
Job Qualifications
- Prior experience as a law enforcement pilot
- Valid FAA Commercial Pilot certificate for category and type of aircraft
- FAA Commercial License for single-engine airplane
- Current and valid FAA Class II medical certificate
- Minimum 1000 hours total time in fixed wing aircraft
- Ability to train Tactical Flight Officers
- Proficient report writing and communication skills
- History of integrity and good judgment
- Ability to remain calm under physiological and psychological stress
Job Duties
- Fly minimum of 20 hours per week at Houston Ship Channel
- Conduct patrol-oriented duties supporting Harris County Sheriff's Office
- Train Tactical Flight Officers to fly and meet unit training needs
- Pass proficiency flight check with HCSO Chief Pilot
- Adapt to changing work conditions and maintain fitness for safe operation
- Communicate effectively and write proficient reports
- Work varying shifts with flexibility, including call-outs
