Job Description

Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is a respected law enforcement agency serving the Harris County region in Texas. The department is committed to providing safety, security, and community support through various specialized units and divisions, including the Special Enforcement Division. The HCSO Air Operations Section is an essential part of this division, responsible for conducting law enforcement air support operations which assist other divisions within the department, as well as aid emergency operations throughout the greater Harris County area. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • prior law enforcement pilot experience preferred
  • valid FAA Commercial Pilot certificate
  • FAA Commercial License for single-engine airplane
  • current and valid FAA Class II medical certificate
  • ability to pass proficiency flight check
  • minimum 1000 hours total time in fixed wing aircraft
  • ability to train Tactical Flight Officers and flexible schedule
  • pass application process, FAA physical, background investigation, interview, AOS Chief Pilot review
  • demonstrate physical and mental stamina
  • maintain physical fitness
  • proficient report writing skills
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work varying shifts and conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience as law enforcement pilot preferred
  • valid FAA Commercial Pilot certificate
  • FAA Commercial license for single-engine airplane
  • current FAA Class II medical certificate
  • minimum 1000 hours total flight time in fixed-wing aircraft
  • ability to train Tactical Flight Officers
  • proficiency in report writing and communication
  • team-oriented and self-motivated
  • proven integrity, responsibility, and sound judgment
  • leadership abilities in emergencies
  • knowledge of aircraft safety and operational policies

Job Duties

  • Fly at least 20 hours per week at Houston Ship Channel
  • perform patrol-oriented duties supporting HCSO operations
  • operate fixed-wing aircraft including Cirrus SR-22 and Cessna 182P
  • conduct proficiency flight checks
  • train Tactical Flight Officers
  • adapt to changing work conditions
  • communicate effectively with law enforcement personnel
