Job Requirements

  • must have prior experience as a law enforcement pilot or be approved by the Chief Pilot
  • must hold a valid FAA Commercial Pilot certificate and single-engine airplane license
  • must hold current FAA Class II medical certificate
  • must have 1000 hours total time in fixed-wing aircraft
  • must pass proficiency flight check with Chief Pilot
  • must have physical and mental stamina to work extended periods
  • must maintain fitness for safe aircraft operation
  • must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability
  • must possess effective communication skills
  • must have history of team cooperation and self-motivation

Job Qualifications

  • prior experience as a law enforcement pilot or evaluated capable by Chief Pilot
  • valid FAA Commercial Pilot certificate for the category and type of aircraft flown
  • FAA commercial license for a single-engine airplane
  • current and valid FAA Class II medical certificate
  • at least 1000 hours total time in fixed-wing aircraft
  • ability to train students and Tactical Flight Officers
  • proficient report writing skills
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • history of integrity, responsibility, and good judgment

Job Duties

  • conduct law enforcement air support operations
  • fly a minimum of 20 hours per week at the Houston Ship Channel
  • perform patrol-oriented duties in support of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office
  • train Tactical Flight Officers (TFOs) in flying techniques
  • maintain flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and mission requirements
  • pass proficiency flight checks with the HCSO Chief Pilot
  • collaborate with departmental personnel and other law enforcement agencies
