Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- maximum age of 40 years at appointment unless eligible for age waiver
- current FAA Class 2 medical or military equivalent within the last 12 months
- minimum 1500 total flight hours with at least 250 pilot-in-command hours, 75 instrument hours, and 75 night hours (flight hour waivers available)
- possession of FAA Commercial or ATP pilot certification with dual or single appropriate ratings or equivalent military rating
- willingness to work at any duty location within selected region
- ability to successfully complete law enforcement training requirements
- eligibility to work in law enforcement under DHS age and service rules
- compliance with veterans' preference eligibility if applicable
Job Qualifications
- One year of specialized professional aviation experience as a pilot in command or sole manipulator in airplanes or helicopters
- FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with appropriate ratings
- ability to evaluate information rapidly and make judicious decisions during flight
- experience developing strategies for coordinating aircraft and ground assets
- proficiency in using information systems to conduct intelligence analysis
- experience operating as Captain, Pilot in Command, Certified Flight Instructor, or equivalent
- demonstrated capability to operate in all flight environments including night and poor weather
Job Duties
- Conducting air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to the interdiction of smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels
- monitoring behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels believed to be engaged in illegal activities
- collecting, refining, and analyzing strategic and tactical intelligence
- supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts
- coordinating with ground and aviation assets during law enforcement operations
- operating aircraft in various environments including adverse weather and low altitudes
- making rapid decisions during flight under operational conditions
