Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
  • maximum age of 40 years at appointment unless eligible for age waiver
  • current FAA Class 2 medical or military equivalent within the last 12 months
  • minimum 1500 total flight hours with at least 250 pilot-in-command hours, 75 instrument hours, and 75 night hours (flight hour waivers available)
  • possession of FAA Commercial or ATP pilot certification with dual or single appropriate ratings or equivalent military rating
  • willingness to work at any duty location within selected region
  • ability to successfully complete law enforcement training requirements
  • eligibility to work in law enforcement under DHS age and service rules
  • compliance with veterans' preference eligibility if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • One year of specialized professional aviation experience as a pilot in command or sole manipulator in airplanes or helicopters
  • FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with appropriate ratings
  • ability to evaluate information rapidly and make judicious decisions during flight
  • experience developing strategies for coordinating aircraft and ground assets
  • proficiency in using information systems to conduct intelligence analysis
  • experience operating as Captain, Pilot in Command, Certified Flight Instructor, or equivalent
  • demonstrated capability to operate in all flight environments including night and poor weather

Job Duties

  • Conducting air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to the interdiction of smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels
  • monitoring behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels believed to be engaged in illegal activities
  • collecting, refining, and analyzing strategic and tactical intelligence
  • supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts
  • coordinating with ground and aviation assets during law enforcement operations
  • operating aircraft in various environments including adverse weather and low altitudes
  • making rapid decisions during flight under operational conditions
